Spark Hat for Fyberspates
Fyberspates have said they want the hat I made to go in the book too! The pattern is ready.
The design would need to be kept secret until it is published so no photos on project pages etc until then - thank you!
The hat can be worked flat or in the round - the choice is yours.
It is one size to fit a child aged 2-10 years, however, it will fit an adult if knitted for a further 2 inches.
Head size: To Fit Approx: 43 cm/17 inches - 55 cm/21.5 inches
Yarn: 4-ply/fingering/sock
Sample is in Fyberspates Vivacious (Lavender Haze)
I used about 152 yds for mine though I suggest you have a few extra yards just to be sure.
Gauge is the same as for Elena's Spark cardigan:
Unblocked: 25 sts and 30 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Bamboo stitch worked on largest needles.
Blocked: 23 sts and 28 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Bamboo stitch worked on largest needles.
Needles: 3.5 mm/US 4 and 3 mm/US 2.5; Circular, Double Pointed or Straight
Stitch marker for circular knitting
Thank you for considering this test.

Here it is on my sister! I used CA Dia Light

Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates
Congrats Jan!!! That is so exciting! What is the deadline for this hat test? I have a few tests I'm finishing up in the next few weeks but I am willing to test this in kids size. My mom stole the extra yarn from my Sparks cardi so hopefully it is ok if I use a different yarn. Otherwise, I should have enough of her scraps back of the same Sour Cherry in about 3-4 weeks...

Thanks Crystal.
A different yarn is fine.
I've just reformatted it to suit their requirements so will send to you now.
I've not actually been given a deadline as yet but obviously the sooner the better and it means I can rest knowing it is in their hands.
Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates
I've added a pic to the first post showing the hat on my sister.

I love both hats - congratulations, Jan!! If you still need another tester, let me know - I could make it for any of my girls or for myself I've been away with only boring garter stitch knitting for two weeks - I need something fun!JanHarvey wrote:I've added a pic to the first post showing the hat on my sister.

Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates
Hi Jan Hat is finished and blocking now, it looks adorable! We'll be getting pics tomorrow morning. And the pattern looks great! The only thing I saw was on page 1 where it says "This hat complements" but then I realized you say "complements" and we say "compliments" - like colour & color So I learned something new!
The only thing I did a bit differently from the pattern is I knit the brim to 4cm instead of 5cm and that is just since my daughter has a shorter head. Other than that, everything looks perfect & we love the hat!
And welcome home, Jana!!! I hope you and your family had a wonderful, restful vacation. Excited to see your sparks hat

Here is our Sparks hat in Dia Merino Sock in Blackberry. Jan, I used 32 grams / 148.2 yards and did everything according to the pattern except only knitting the brim to 4cm instead of 5cm. Thank you so much for allowing me to test, we LOVE this hat so much!!!
(Forgive me for all the pics, I'm very bad at eliminating )

Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates
Crystal - they are gorgeous photos. I an see why you needed to post them all!
Thank you!
I had to look up complement/compliment when you said that - yes in the UK we use both depending on whether it related to a person or an object!
Would you mind answering these couple of questions?
Did you start the crown shaping at the length in the pattern?
What is your daughters head circumference and age?
Thank you so much again!

Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates
Thank you, Jan I'm so glad you like them! My daughter loves her "beautiful blackberry" hat and I'm just so glad she was in a great mood for pics. She's been getting a little sick of my camera lately
And her head circumference is 19 1/4" (so just under 49cm) and she just turned 4 about 6 weeks go. I started the crown shaping at 15 cm (sorry forgot to mention that!) and knit the brim to 4cm.
This hat is very stretchy, I just tried it on myself (my head is almost 22") and it fits! I would have done the full brim if it were for me, but other than that, it fits great on both of us.
Thanks again, Jan, and congrats on your new design

Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates
Looks amazing, Crystal!!
Jan,
I am about 2/3 of the way through the hat - using Cashmere Sock in Blue Bell to match the cardi. I have had almost no knitting time this week, due to various start-of-school stuff, but tomorrow is the first day all 5 kiddos are off to school, so I will get it done by then for sure. It looks great so far, and I can't wait to see it finished and being worn!

Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates
All done here I used 42g or about 148 yards of Cashmere Sock and knit the pattern exactly as written (so to 15.5cm before starting crown decreases). The brim has a 12" circumference unstretched and the body is about 13.5" unstretched.
Here it is on a 3yo with a 19.5" head:
And on a 5yo with a 19.5" head, but a longer crown:
On a 5yo with a 20.5" head:
And on an 8yo with a 21" head:
I will see if I can get my 10yo to take a pic as well. The kids are all fighting over it already, which means I may have to knit a few more . . . It's an amazing design!! I didn't find any errors in the pattern.

WOW! I love it in Bluebell! Just to confirm it is the same hat on all the children? Love it!
Ladies,
Thank you all so much - I know this is a Fyberspates pattern but I can't help thinking that with your photos Elena will see some more interest in her yarn too!
Re: Spark Hat for Fyberspates

Isn't is amazing in Blue Bell?? Yes, it is the same hat on all the kids. You can see in the last pic that the Bamboo stitch is more stretched out on my 8yo. He did also adjust it so it would sit "the way a hat should" i.e. be slouchy. The versatility of the fit is amazing - I love that it can fit just about anyone in the family.
And I'm with you - all the hats knit in CA look so amazing, how could it not prompt some new people to check out Elena's yarns? Your Rust version is to die for, and I love Crystal's Blackberry, too
